Hi everyone,
I'm new to the chicken world and have been educating myself through books to get an education, but I certainly know it can only teach us so much. Thus, I'm looking forward to the experience. We've spent a lot of time reviewing coop plan, diy ideas and kits. We recently found a made in America - small company - coop business named FarmNYard. Has anyone heard of them? Also, do you think we need a heater in an area that gets dusting of snow, but it can be cold regardless. Sometimes, it's in the low 30 s. appreciate all your input, and glad I finally joined instead of just reading as much of the post as able. Terri Linn

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

We have bitterly cold winters here, and apart from providing a good coop with adequate ventilation we do not provide additional heat. Chickens are quite hardy and tolerate very cold temps given good housing.

! Pleased you joined our flock! I've not heard of that company. I build my own coops - I have limited carpentry skills but don't like the construction of most of the ones I could buy. I think a person could buy a sturdy coop and modify to make it sturdier and more predator proof. Good luck to you!
