I get dead and dried crickets from a friend at work who raises them. Otherwise they'd just be thrown away. I began freezing them in ziplock bags of water and dumping them in the duck pool. So far they've enjoyed it!

I've avoided live ones to avoid a game of "chicken football".

Try the local bait shop
I pay 3.50/100 for crickets
and 1.50/dozen for small minnows for the ducks.
You can also buy crickets wholesale at about 13.00/1000
and the will keep in the box for weeks with a little potato for moisture/food.

Live crickets are a big hit with my girls. Can't bring myself to do it too often, though.

OMG I hadn't thought about using crickets, bu my family sure gets a kick out of it when butter fly's float down into range of our hens.

/me goes to my local bait shop
