I don't think shared nest are that uncommon, it's happened here with poor results though.

Oh, well when the eggs become fertile, how would I discourage the ducks from laying in the same nest? I have a nesting box for 2 and a divider but they take turns in the nest, or one will sit next to the sitting duck and watch over the eggs.
