It depends on how reliable the source is, and how lucky you are with USPS. I am in Alaska. Sometimes shipped eggs are all I can get, if I am looking for a particular breed. I just hatched 9 Black Copper Marans from 10 shipped eggs. The same people sent me 9 eggs last winter and I had 6 chicks hatch from those. That said the luck I have had with Faverolles is abysmal. Maybe 10%. I think the quality of the eggs to start with is most important. As for damage, I have received very few eggs in a cracked or broken condition. Most shippers are pretty good about packing. So I will continue to potentially "waste " my money this way. Once we have more possibilities up here that will change. It's getting better, and some small hatcheries here are making that happen.
