The vast majority of eggs I've received in the mail have been wrapped in bubble wrap, either individually or in the case of quail eggs in the carton as a group. I guess it could certainly diminish the hatch rate if it cut off enough gas exchange, but I don't think its accurate to make a blanket statement like "it kills the eggs". The turkey eggs I bought last year were shipped from Arkansas to Michigan, each individually wrapped in bubble wrap, and then packed inside a box with paper shreds, which was bagged in a plastic bag (I guess in case of a leak), and the whole thing was packed inside a USPS flat rate large box with another layer of shreds in between the inner and outer boxes. 8 of 9 developed, 7 of 9 hatched, 6 of 9 made it to adulthood.

Personally, I'd prefer bubble wrap to other wrapping methods, since it is probably the most effective protection for the eggs.

didn't mean it as a blanket statement, I guess I should have said (can kill) I threw it out there in case that is how her eggs are coming, been reading that the plastic wrap smothers.

Hi I read it at a couple sites, not sure where, there are pro and cons here at BYC. I also so spoke to a Ebay seller who quoted facts about, as you said transpiring and B wrap and he had switched to a more costly and time consuming shipping method, his non viable egg complaints fell sharply, this was months ago.

Sorry I had a pullet emergency my blue maran was chirping it's head off and I went to see what was going on and she was in the duck pool, poor little girl had to hold her for about half hour, she was so cold and tired...and I had just put a screen in there today in case that very thing happened.

I am on my third set of shipped eggs this year and so far the hatching rate has been good. 75% for one 50% for the other which is not bad considering that the barn mix I got right here was also a 50% hatch since two were infertile and two didn't develop.

THANK YOU ALL for the info. I will try to get up to that show. I would really love to get some babies. If anybody does know of somebody that breeds the Red Goldens and the Yellow Goldens please email me at [email protected]
