Well, the husband is finally convinced of the eglu and a couple of hens. Depending on the availability of hens available from Omlet at this time, I was wondering if anyone had ever bought any chickens from live poultry stores to start out their flock?

Driving past the one I see in Chinatown always breaks my heart a little bit, but being a chicken novice I have no idea what breeds they are, their ages, or if they'd be appropriate as laying hens if I rescued a couple.

Does anyone have any experience/advice about this route?

Weve bought baby chicks from feed stores before. Ive also bought adult birds from swap meets and poultry shows. Never had any problems what so ever. Without knowing what breed of chickens you are seeing I cant offer much help.

Look at the "Buy, sell, trade Chicken " section in the index... make a request for what you want and list your State, county, etc. Maybe someone near you can set you up.
