Hi,
I was thinking, when ordering hatching eggs would it affect hatchability so much to buy hatching eggs far away from you then getting them a little closer to your state. Like would getting eggs from PA to NY be better then eggs from TX to NY?

Thanks!

In general, I would think the closer the better. That having been said, it is more dependant on how the eggs were treated in transit. I live in Florida and have ordered eggs three times. The first time was in Florida as well, only had one chick hatch out of that batch. The next time was from Texas and had 10 out of 11 chicks hatch. The last batch are from Indiana and are in the bator. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I used to think the closer the better, but one of the worst hatches I ever had was from eggs that came from about 4 hours away from me and one of the best was from clear across the country. I think it's more a matter of how they're treated by the postal service than the distance.

General rule of thumb is the closer the better, but it depends on a lot of factors. Freshness of the eggs, handling during transit, the way the eggs are packed, these all affect the hatch. I've gotten eggs from the next state (TN) that didn't hatch worth a darn, then I've gotten eggs from AK that hatched great. I've gotten eggs from all over the country, it seems that if the eggs are packed right, they should fair the trip well.

Oh ok Thank you so much!!

I guess the quality of the hatching eggs is more important than the distance.

Thanks Again!

I ordered eggs from GA, and got them in three days. I sent eggs to VA and mailed them on Sunday, (we have a po open at the mall) and they did 'nt get there til thursday and didn't get picked up til Fri. Don't know why. But the longer you wait the less likely you'll get a good hatch. If you get fresh eggs you may get a good hatch.

Another thing hatchability depends on is how many times the box goes through scanners at the po's.. The lady I got my eggs in VA sent my eggs and someone else's out at the same time.. Mine were coming to NC whereas the other person lives in SC.. Although I'm closer, mine went through 5 scans and the other's eggs only went through 1 or 2 scans.. The more scanners they go through, the more they are handles and the better chance of being damaged...

Is their anyway to determine how many scanners certain post offices will use. What if their was a way for hatching eggs when they were shipped to write "Don't scan this box" on the box to let the post office know not to scan it, but then again they would probably think your hiding something. Unless it says their hatching eggs.

I've had the same issue. I also have had problems with inexperienced shippers.

I don't think the problem is with the scanners, I think it's more of the number of times it gets scanned. The more times scanned = more handling, thus more chances for the box to get tossed, shaken, dropped, etc.
