Buying Pullets in October-

I had a flock of 9 chickens-my first year- the chickens are 6 months old- last week the woman who watches them when I am not around left the coop open and 3 chickens were killed. I am devastated. Every time I see my chickens now it seems like there is an emptiness. I was thinking of getting 3 pullets in October but I am not sure if it is a good idea since the winter is coming- and I live in New York, Hudson Valley, where it can get cold. I would be ordering them from McMurray Hatchery. Any advice on whether this is a bad idea or not to do now.

Hi,
I have 8 20 -ish week old started pullets coming from Murray MacMurray next month to add to my existing 6 18 month old hens going into molt. They are arriving in 3 weeks, I'll let you know how it goes. I too live in the Hudson Valley (Bedford NY).
