Hello everyone I’ve been checking on online hatcheries for white silkies keys because I want to get them for their broodiness. but every website has them unsexed free runs i wanted to order 5 and what are the chances of them being all roosters

Each Chick has a 50% chance of being male ... so depending how you do the math ... ;) ... while it is possible to get all five males ... in my opinion ... you have a 90% chance of not getting all five males ... so a 10% chance of you getting all males ...

Of course the smaller number of chicks you get ... the more possible that you won't get the "typical" 50/50 split ... kinda hard to do on only 5 chicks! ;)

Then of couse just because they hatched out 50 chicks ... no guarantee that they even got 25 of each gender ... and then ... which five their hand finds to put in the box for you ... are yours the first five, or the last five?

Mathematically, there's a 1/32 chance of it. MyPetChicken sells sexed silkies, but they're very nearly out for the season. If you don't care about color, they still have a few buffs left.

Also remember Silkies are one of the hardest breeds to sex. It can take months sometimes not till they crow or lay. I did not know this when I got into Silkies, it can be heart wrenching to raise them and become attached only to have 5 out of 8 cockerel after raising them for 5 months. I agree with AlleysChicks. Hatchery Silkies usually are nothing like you read about Silkies, I also regretted it as they were 3 times the size of what Silkies are supposed to be and had a bad temperament.

Thank u for the info so which hatchery do u suggest i should get mine and where dis u get urs so i dont make the same mistake

My Silkies are all mutually broody. I got mine from a local breeder. You could check your local chicken swaps or auctions, Craig’s list, sometimes you can find a breeder that is pet homing girls that don’t work for thier breeding program but make excellent broody or pets. There are a lot of breeders out there that are raising healthy robust chicks.

If your only real reason for Silkie is to brood and you can't find them look for other broody breeds. For instance in recent years hatcheries are offering Silver Penciled Rock and they will brood several times a year also.
