My RB poult was in the brooder with a chick to keep him company. The chick didn't seem quite right from the start and he died overnight on Thursday. Now my little poult is alone. He is imprinted on me and follows me around the house and never wants me to put him down in the brooder. I'm worried he will die from loneliness, is that possible? He does whatever he can to jump out of the brooder and has been successful once.

Also, I am feeding him organic chick starter and using ACV in his water, I was told at the feed store that this is ok. Should I get a higher protein feed for a heritage breed? I have boiled some eggs for him too and will be giving him the yolk when he gets back in his brooder.

I keep reading on here that chicks and poults die suddenly a lot. Now that he is alone I am so worried about him...

Little guy peeping might drive you crazy

. Yes, I'd go with the Gamebird Starter (28-30% protein). You can also augment with crushed hard boiled eggs/mealworms. I'd not bother with acidyfing the water as this can, in too large a %, knock off good bacteria in upper digestive tract (primary use of water acidification in commercial flocks is to knock down bacterial population in upper digestive tract prior to slaughter).

Maybe another feathered friend, or two, would be useful.

Good luck!

The peeping drives me crazy because I feel guilty that he's lonely. I appreciate the advice, I will get him some new feed on monday.
