Ended BYC’s Stunning Sunset and Scenery Photo Contest

Says the professional photographer. 🙄
If I were a pro I would be making money off my work, right? Not slaving for the man in a job that brings me no joy. EVERYONE has a chance. Skill level means nothing if your images connect with your audience. I've entered many contests here at BYC, and I've gotten one second place in them. Trust me, it's not about skill. The images that connect with the most people will take home the prizes.

There's still plenty of time left in this contest for everyone to submit something they're proud of. If what you have entered doesn't make you feel great, get back out there and shoot again! Sorry if that sounds ranty, I really mean it as encouragement. Don't get discouraged by somethign that you enjoy just because you think someone else did it better. Draw inspiration from that and channel it into your own work! I really do believe everyone has a chance here. The question is whether or not they'll take it.

Honestly, I don't know if my photos will win, but I'm proud of them. I loved taking them, and when I see them, I can remember just what I was doing at the time. That's why I love photography so much!

Then that's all that matters. That whole "A picture says a thousand words" thing is absolutely true. You're capturing a moment in time and your thoughts and emotions at the specific time and place in an image, and sharing that with everyone. If you get it right, your audience will be there in that moment with you. Even if you don't get it perfect, it's still telling YOU that story and nothing can take that away.
