Same situation, but the fourth grade.I learned about “can” and “may“ from my 5th grade teacher. I disliked her very much. Here’s how I learned it:
We had to ask— MAY I use to the restroom?
But if we asked
CAN I use the restroom?
she would laugh and say— I don’t know, can you?
May is asking permission
Can is just the ability to do something
