I had an idea this morning while I was in the shower (yes, I thought about BYC in the shower).

Would it be possible to have a virtual BYC conference via Second Life? Since a in-person conference would be a pain to plan and organize, I thought this would be an option. Just think - BYC members already spend a lot of time online anyways, so it makes sense to have an online conference. It could span maybe 2-3 days with various speakers and presentations just like if this was in person. A variety of topics could be covered during the conference and would be a great chicken-keeping tutorial for those just getting into raising them, as well as for the experts.

Second Life is an online virtual world in which members create avatars to represent themselves (kind of like the icons on BYC). Members can attend any sessions they choose, either it be "building a chicken coop" to "how to get into showing chickens" to "growing your own chicken feed." Second Life is free to join, but BYC could charge a few dollars for each registration ticket to make it a sort of fundraiser to support the website. Maybe $5 for regular members and $2 for GFMs.

So, let me know what ya'll think about this.

What is Second Life?
