I get a few chickens then I find this site. I casually read through the topics and enjoy the reading very much. But it puts BAD ideas in my head such as building an incubator getting my girlfriend wondering why I am doing such a thing and wondering where we will keep the chickens and quail that I hatch. Giving me grief about it too. BYC has some nerve putting these ideas in my head. I think BYC is transmitting subliminal messages from this site just to make people do things like this.

Well here is my home made incubator. Tell me what you think give me ideas of how to improve it. I am holding pretty good on temp and humidity. Light comes on at 99 and goes off at 100 but the temp does go to 102 for a short period then drops back to 99 and the light comes back on. Would it help to cut larger vent holes to keep it from hitting 102? I have four 1/2 square holes, 2 on each side for ventilation. Humidity stays between 50 and 55. I am still thinking about my egg turner. I am going to rig it up somehow so I do not have to open the incubator to do the turning. I will probably make a couple of different trays out of sheet styrofoam for chicken eggs and quail eggs. I do love this site!!! Or is it just those subliminal messages BYC is sending me out making me think I love it???

Now I just need to get some eggs to try it out.

It looks phenomenal! I can't really offer advice on the vent holes because my attempts at homemade incubators didn't go so well, but you obviously know more of what you're doing than I did. The only concern I have is that my original incubator had an IDENTICAL thermometer/hygrometer to the one you're using and it was WAY off. Claimed the temp was like, 104 yet the eggs were cool to the touch. I'm talking about your digital one, btw. Just make sure you double and even triple check its long-term accuracy before you put eggs in to be on the safe side. Or, trust the non-digital one more... Otherwise, you are clearly going to have a successful hatch if you're even half as detail-oriented as you seem to be! Good luck, and keep us updated! (yes there are subliminal messages going on here, lol)
