Come say hello to @CluckNDoodle! Andrea has been a member since January 2019 and comes to us from Georgia.
1. Tell us a bit more about yourself.
Hello, I’m Andrea, aka CluckNDoodle!
I do love to talk, so prepare yourself for a chatterbox interview!
I grew up in the city in Southern California and I now live on the countryside of South East Georgia. I’m married to my wonderful husband that I call my Boston Butt because he’s from, you guessed it, Boston, and we have one awesome daughter!
As much as I love taking pictures, I don’t like being the subject matter so I really had to dig to find one of myself. For those of you that wanted to see the face behind all the giggles, this is me! lol
I’m a huge goofball and I love all things involving nature, crafting, gardening, drawing, photography, animals, sewing, crocheting, and writing (though I admit writing about myself is proving difficult!).
I am the perfect example of, “Jack of all trades, master of none”!
There was a bit of culture shock when we first moved to Georgia but I think we’ve fully integrated now. (Lol, we don’t have any hills to speak of locally but that’s nothing a little redneck ingenuity can’t solve!)
2. Why and when did you start keeping chickens? (or any other poultry you have)
I’ve had poultry in my life on and off since I can remember! I may have grown up in the city but I was always a little country girl at heart. In our postage stamp sized backyard my parents nurtured my love for animals. We had 3 chickens, 2 dogs, a rabbit, fish, and a walk-in aviary filled with all tiny feathered things from finch to button quail...fast forward many years, I had a long dry spell of poultry in my life while trying to convince my husband we needed chickens. Then my daughter finally got old enough to realize she had powers over her father like no other and we now have a happy little flock again!
3. Which aspects of poultry keeping do you enjoy the most?
Hands down my very favorite part of poultry keeping is hatching chicks! I have been keeping chickens on and off for most of my life but I only discovered my love for hatching them in January of 2019 and I have since hatched over 300 chicks, goslings, peachicks, turkey poults, and quail. Our chickens are pets to us that supply the family with fresh eggs, fertilizer for the garden, and pest control!
4. Which members of your flock, past and present, stand out for you and why?
Meet Miracle. We rescued her as a young pullet a couple years ago and we had no idea this much personality could fit into one single chicken. She routinely escapes our backyard and proceeds to cluck and peck at the front door when she’s ready for me to put her back in the yard.
Our neighbor actually submitted her image to a photoshop group and there are about 30 random memes of her floating around on the internet now, lol. She has traveled the virtual world in her 15 minutes of fame! We love to rescue animals but I don’t think any of us anticipated the amount of laughter and fun times this little diva would bring us.

5. What was the funniest poultry related thing that has happened to you in your years as an owner?
In my experience most aspects of keeping poultry require a good sense of humor and the ability to laugh at yourself. From pulling an egg out of my pocket at the grocery store when trying to pay, to thinking I’m about to be mauled by a wild animal only to find it’s just a chicken in the bushes…I’ve done it all. lol

6. Beside poultry, what other pets do you keep?
My daughter has a Sun Conure (Mango), a Budgie (Blue), and a Canary (Buzz Lightyear). Our old Dobermans passed away and we're awaiting the perfect fur baby to walk into our lives again. Other than that, it's just the chickens for right now!
7. Anything you'd like to add?
I joined BYC initially for advice and I have since met truly genuine and wonderful people that I hope to stay in touch with for a very long time to come! BYC has become one of my favorite websites to visit, not only for the wealth of knowledge and a willingness to share and help others, but also for fun and friendship.
