BYC Member Interview - Sammster

I have an Amazon GrandParrot, whom I occasionally babysit. "Pollo" has a big vocabulary and talks WAY more than our Kady. But Kady wins on sheer volume, every day! 😁
Thankfully my parrot doesn't do any screeching. She yells at me in my own voice. It's a weird relationship.

Pollo is a 50+ year old that my son rescued when my best friend's brother passed away. Her favorite movie is Jingle All the Way. She rattles on, long sentences. I was listening and it dawned on me - she was repeating a one-ended phone conversation. Her previous owner was bed-ridden for a while before he passed. His phone was his connection to the world. She repeats what he said on the phone. "Hello? Hello! How are you? Yeah. Ok. Alright. Uh huh. Talk to you later. Ok. Bye.".... and lots of things between these words.

Mine does that too. That's so adorable. Mine is 32 years old. It's nice your son gave Pollo a home. I love Jingle All the Way too. Maybe next time I will let mine watch it.

Amazing artwork Sandy! ā¤ļø I loved the glowing mushrooms the best!

I have two B&G macaws, one I've had as a baby for over 20 years, and the latter one was a rescue about 10 years ago so I know all about repeating things from the former owner. We don't cuss much around here, but that one could make a truck driver blush. We've gotten him past most of the naughty words now by ignoring him mostly, and the other one telling him to "shut up." 🤣

If I'm not mistaken, macaws "like" only one person? How difficult was that adoption? That's one lucky bird to have found his way into your home ā™”
