BYC vs. FB

Facebook/Farmville is what started the ball rolling for me. My FB friends got me addicted to Farmville, I looked forward to harvesting crops and feeding chickens. One day I had to go to a store in the same plaza as the feed store. They had a big plastic horse that reminded me of FV so I went to look at it. Then I went inside and saw real chicks. Next thing you know I was driving home with three fuzzy butts (all roosters

). I found BYC soon after and now I don't have time to feed my virtual chickens because I spend all of computer time on BYC.

Have to go with Facebook, but I have the most fun on fb with my BYC friends.. with BYC you get to know the people to an extent and associate them with their avatars.. with Face book you get the "BIG" picture. I know alot of my none BYC friends are thinking what in the heck is she talking about most of the time.. Anyone is welcome to add me on there, but I will warn you I'm one of the ones who use FB to rant alot LOL.. Its my Place where I can come and spill my guts and everyone makes me feel better and I find that I'm not as crazy as I thought or my friends are just as crazy one or the other.. LOL

Don't have a FB page, never had one and don't want one. Never have I had twitter, myspace or any other social website EXCEPT BYC!! Love it here and spend 1-1.5 hrs in the evening after caring for the birds. Weekends a little more, maybe 2 hrs. All I need for a great day!

Let's see. . .

On Facebook, I have over 30 friends, yet only 3 said happy birthday to me.

On Facebook, I can't talk about poultry, science, farming, or anything "intelligent" for that matter without getting weird looks or no comments.

On Facebook, there's only a little over 30 people to, umm, hear, and not really talk to.

I think I prefer BYC by a looong shot.

Facebook seems to be yet another way to be ignored by your friends and family, at least, that has been my experience.

I love BYC! Chicken people are just nicer.

Ive been absent from BYC for a lil while, but I Like Both BYC & FB....Im Glad That BYC Got A FB, but there's definately more going on here on the BYC site then there! On FB i am limited to initial family & friends. Here, there's the whole world talkin!

I don't do facebook. I get emails from my friends inviting me to join but so far no one has been able to talk me into it. I have one buddy that uses it pretty much for a dating site. According to him he's done quite well with the ladies on there.

I play farmville on facebook - and have reconnected with a lot of old school friends I lost contact with years ago. I joined FB and BYC at about the same time- Facebook was originally for the chat function so I could talk to a friend in the states and see all her photos without emailing all the time. It has enabled me to connect with others not here on BYC from all over the world. I have my own personal page and one that I keep for photos and news on my ducks so my non poultry family and friends arent bombarded with photos and news of the ducks. I have been added to quiet a few groups- all involving poultry - some of these are closed groups some open- but here on BYC the pages and the millions of posts are all here for anyone to see. Its more like a database of helpful information that someone that may not have the confidence or computer know how to join can still find if they need help with keeping poultry. I dont reallly think it is a matter of one versus the other- but two different genre of website - but with some aspects overlapping. Both can be viewed as a social network- but here the emphasis is on poultry keeping. Im sure with the millions of people on facebook - those who actually keep Poultry would be a relatively small percentage. At least here I know that my addiction is understood.
