Congrats, everyone!

Especially my friend @Tookie! :)

Thank you for the win! Living so far north, my pumpkin froze before I carved it, so I had to carve it still frozen. If I let it thaw it would have gone mushy. My hands were sooooooo cold! When I put in the light, it glistened off the ice crystals making the evil grin that much more evil looking!

Wow, what did it feel like to carve a frozen pumpkin? Was it harder or easier to do than a non-frozen one? And where do you live that it froze so deeply so early? The ice crystals look really cool in the glow of the light :love

I was expecting it to be harder, but really it wasn't any harder than a non-frozen pumpkin using a finely seraded blade. I don't think surface carving would have been possible. It was just really cold and I had to work fast so it didn't thaw out.

I live in Yukon Canada, about 100 miles east of the Alaska border. It makes for selective chicken keeping. My breeds must be larger with smaller combs. I have to use straw for winter bedding as other options are not warm enough. I can't have too many chickens as they spend several months almost entirely in the coop, but need to have enough to keep them warm. Have to keep a good quality enclosed heated waterer (an open waterer creates too much condensation at -40 and freezes the coop doors closed + causes frost bite on the combs). Have to collect eggs several times a day or else they will freeze and crack...
