I would also suggest not getting one that is completely round. It's hard to tell if the lid is in place and seated.

I think the one I'm planning on is squared off some at each corner, but I'll double check that before I get it.

I've got 2 right now, both red. Anne and Diana. They are the prettiest, most calm little girls. I knew right away I wanted to add more to my flock, and I was so thrilled to find these locally and avoid having to have eggs shipped.

Reds are pretty. Actually all the colors they come in are pretty.

They really are. This lady has black, blue, chocolate, and mauve with some frizzles in the mix. She's got some black mottled chicks right now and several more hatches this month. I've got chicks in my brooder right now though so it's either wait and time a hatch for when these go outside or buy another brooder, lol. I've got everything else, just not an actual item to use as a brooder. I don't like using the tote I started in, so I'm using a toddler tent playpen.

You could start them in the tote, then move them to the brooder when the current residents get evicted.
