BYC's 2025 Spooktacular Halloween Hatch-Along

So reading this has my newbie self questioning. Do they need to completely flip?! The incubator I’m using turns them from far right to far left every few hours or so. The top of the egg has stayed upright the entire time just leans them from side to side. I have just been letting it do its thing cause they’re definitely getting shifted in direction. But now I’m wondering if that’s enough haha

That's what I'm not sure about either.

I've had two bad hatch rates so I'm approaching this one very analytically. I want to figure out what's going wrong before I try to hatch purchased eggs again.

Different incubators turn the eggs different amounts and on different axes. Some hold the eggs with the blunt end facing upwards and tilt it from side to side; some have the eggs lying on their side and roll them so different sides are facing up and down. The most important thing is that they aren't spending all or most of the time in the same position.

Ok, I'll stop mother henning the incubator, that is why I bought it, lol.

I did add a bit of olive oil to the edges of the tray so it moves more smoothly now.

Is it leaving them lying with different sides facing up after turning, now you've done that?

Those ayam cemani eggs really were tough! Fingers crossed for some much better rates for you this go!

Yes, that seems to have fixed the problem.

I've decided from now on I can't get emotionally invested in each and every egg, it's very draining when it doesn't go well.

I also know, from the last hatch, that Pot's eggs are a gamble since I only got 3 chicks from 15 of her eggs last time around.

@ella2025 How are you eggs doing? Are they bunching up like mine were?

I had some major issues with my Incubator not heating up correctly if I take it out of the foam box like I did on my previous hatch, so I had to put the Styrofoam back on it. It's still settling in abd heating up, so Im gonna wait till later to open it and see. I wish the incubator would display what time they're going to turn the eggs.

Wow, I'm sorry! Were they just never fertile or was it incubator issues?
