BYC's 2025 Spooktacular Halloween Hatch-Along

It's the big candling day! 6 days till lockdown. :celebrate

1, 2, 4, ALL BLUE EGGS (especially 8 and 12 they look clear with a big yolk?) uncertain. I smelled all of them and they smell fine.

More on 8 and 12: they are both super super impossible to candle blue. (So is 11 but 11 looks good to me for a blue egg.) I've seen one of my 4 Easter egger hens getting mated by the roo and she didn't do the shakey-shakey that all hens usually do to store the sperm or something. I don't know if it's just that one time, but maybe those could be her eggs and infertile?

I'm 90% sure both 1 and 2 are no good but I'm just really really hoping they're good so I'm leaving them and recandling on lockdown.

Just to be clear, on day 18, should I be seeing only a very huge moving dark blobs, or some veins? What can I look for in the blue eggs?

16 is the only one I pulled out as I see a very clear blood ring and it is completely clear.

So far we removed 3 certainly dead eggs, 19 the silkie mix, 16 the silkie mix and 9 the Easter egger mix.

Here are all the eggs in order

My incubator'temperature won't get high enough whenever I take it out of the Styrofoam box it was in. But the incubator is in the basement now in fall in mass, so it's pretty cold in there. I'll try to put it somewhere upstairs and test before lockdown.

I have videos from my last hatch so you can see what to look for as lockdown gets closer. It's really hard to describe, otherwise. You can see them in the thread in my signature I started candling here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...ody-and-everything-thereafter.1672919/page-10

I'd repost the links here, but I don't want to get confused later, lol.

I came across another minor issue with my Incubator. There's a very thin wire connecting the egg turner to the top lid with the fan and the thermometer probe. That wire sometimes gets under one of the rollers and when I open the lid, that roller will get pulled off and the eggs will tumble down. But that's only hapened 3 times so far and no eggs cracked from that.

Mine has the same thing. I taped the wire to the inside of the bin. I wouldn't want chicks to get tangled up in it when they start hatching.
