BYC's 2025 Spooktacular Halloween Hatch-Along

They really do change so much in a day! Im thankful for them getting wings and making them look a little different hahah. Half of mine are still identical. My first chickens I got I wasn’t working and spent all my free time staring at the brooder and holding them. I haven’t been around this group much at all, they’re so skittish! I try to interact with them when I can so I’m hoping they will warm up to me.
Wow, your BR roo really was busy lol. I can count 3 EE babies in there 🤣

The hard part is I have two EE hens so I really don’t know if my EE Roo fathered anyone!!! 😩 I think I might have one that he fathered but I’m really not sure. It’s got a slight reddish brown tint to its grey and none of my birds are red/or brown. Closest I have is BO

I’m surprised you were able to get rid of them lol I said I would get rid of some and didn’t. I guess room for more for you now 🤣
I had to make a point of not getting attached, handled them only when necessary . . . that was the only way I'd be able to let them go.

Loll! Is the BR roo the top roo?

Something I've learned with my (very little compared to other people here on BYC) experience with chicks is that most of the time chicks are much more skittish in a big group. 3-5 is the sweet spot for me.

The chickies are getting huge! Except Beth the lil silkie lol. Beth is a suspected roo but all others look like hens SO FAR. with my last clutch of chicks I was able to tell the roo from the hen on day 3. These all look like Pepper the little pullet, comb wise, except Beth. Beth's wing feathers look... silkie like... I thought a silkie crossed with a regular feathered chicken will always be regular feathered? Unless Beth's father is Fernando the other silkie... he live in a separate pen but I being Cindy the mom to him once in a while. I don't recall doing that soon before collecting the eggs. Anyway we'll see when he grows up. I'll just use he for now, it's just easier.
What kind of comb will Beth have? Walnut or Pea?

Muffin looks like a typical light Brahma so far, with white and black wings and pretty much solid white down, exactly like her mother looked as a chick, slightly greyer in some rare spots.

Cupcake has slightly "buff" or "peachy" or "salmon" or "orange" wing feathers coming in. She has a black head spot too. We will see why when she grows up. Maybe one of these 2 Brahma babies is a rooster.

Peach has one row of those orangey peachy feathers too, but no black on wings. She is more skittish than the others, she kept walking off my hand and tumbling back into the brooder, but she is still so, so, much better than her mother. Peppa her mom is above the White Leghorn level of skittishness, impossible to pick up unless I corner her, and can fly like 10 feet high. She also hates me. I hope Peach here would be nicer, lol.

Beth really does seem so small and petite compared to the rest. Peach looks giant to me in the one where she’s in your hand!! I love that they all have a different look!!
