All of mine are doing so well! I felt like my first group was healthy but seeing how active these are is crazy! Growing too fast. They’re starting to look a little different now so that’s exciting to see.

Those BR babies look purebred, lol. Moms genes really gave up on them!

Here are my chicks hesitantly eating some scratch grains. I gave them some chopped up veggies yesterday and all they did was shake their head and wipe their beaks when they get close to it . But this morning I saw they finished it, so I'll try it again today or tomorrow when I get home.

That's hilarious. I culled a male, Taz, and most the chicks in the yard are his . . and mostly males 9/12. He definitely got the last laugh.

Sometimes I wish I was brave enough to cull/eat a chicken that I raised. I don't know what I'll do with the cockerels with this hatch and I realize I can rehome them. But most people who want the cockerels just want to fatten them up and eat them. Poor roosters.

I felt the same way until Taz attacked me repeatedly once one of his girls went broody and had chicks in the yard.

My Moony attacks some people other than me. He only started this recently. He's absolutely terrified of me because I pick him up every single day and can hold him still even when he's flapping and wiggling in my arms. People who can't do that get whooped by him . He will probably get replaced by Saffron or one of the roos in this hatch if they are nice.

We ate the breast meat, the legs were too tough, though. I ended up feeding it to the chickens and dogs. I bought a crockpot since then, so hopefully it'll be better next time.

I have too many males to choose from to put up with bad attitudes anymore. I only kept Taz as long as I did because I only had the two males at the time.
