I run a sailing program, and we always shut down for Memorial Day Weekend. Not because of the holiday per se, not because I don't trust my students, but because of these idiots who only put their boat in the water three times a year (Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day):

Our local news yesterday was full of Memorial Day boating mishaps, including a missing person and even a death! The list was so long, I sat there with my jaw dropping....

Here too. I've got sooooo many stories, before I got wise and didn't go out at all those weekends. I've personally rescued a number of powerboaters (it is almost always powerboats) while on a sailboat.

I posted a few boating fails that I thought were funny. Mostly the mishaps I've seen personally looked more like these:
