In 1994, a geology student discovered a relatively complete dinosaur skeleton in the Chihuahua Desert region of the Sonoran Desert in southern Arizona. Paleontologists determined it was a previously unknown species.

They were going to call this new species Chihuahuasaurus but the contrast between this gigantic dinosaur and the tiny dog breed was too funny so they named it Sonorasaurus instead.

True story!
