Oh just his stranger danger. He’s never liked strangers or really even people he knows. it’s hard for me because people see a golden and they just assume he is friendly. Actually just recently I had someone ignore the do not pet vest and reach for him anyways. Chase did good, no growling, but he dodged around him to get behind my legs.

Honestly I’m just beyond fed up with the people thinking it’s ok to pet other peoples dogs. People need to keep their grubby hands to themselves.

I agree. I taught basic obedience for about 20 years and I'll admire people's dogs but not handle them, and they assume I'm afraid of them. I'm not, it's just rude to the dog. I wouldn't handle your kid so why should I maul your dog? We have a Golden we rescued from a breeder and she's not sociable either, which is kind of a shame. She's sweet to us, though.

I once put my late great Golden on a Down-stay outside a building like you did, in the shade in the desert and when I came out a man was calling him and trying to get him to go with him. Of course, Rigby wouldn't but what a jerk.

Yes exactly. Personally I believe you are causing harm almost every time you pet someone’s dog. A lot of dogs simply don’t like strangers and definitely don’t want you messing with them. And go those super friendly dogs who wanna meet everyone, you are only furthering their bad behavior and disengagement from their owner. Now if the owners are too ignorant to understand that that’s kind of on them. There are definitely dogs out there that are well behaved, sociable, and attentive to their owners that petting wouldn’t really affect but that’s rare. If some ignorant person doesn’t mind you petting their dog that’s fine, but leave mine alone.

And wow that makes me so mad. That is so so so rude. I can’t believe people think that is ok.

I walked past my dog without saying a word, unlocked my car, opened the passenger door, and whistled. He jumped up, ran past the dude and jumped in the car. If looks could kill, I gave him one of those looks as I drove away. I hope he felt about 2 inches tall.
