Accually, there is a series like that. Its called the chronicles of Prydain. The protagonist has a pig as his side kick, and everyone calls him an "assistant pig keeper"

Well, it is not exactly the same, but there is always the Chronicles of Prydain, in which the hero is the Assistant Pig-Keeper and entrusted with the safety of the magical pig oracle, Hen Wen.
