My childhood play equipment at the park was made out of old telephone poles that leaked tar and creasote, the slide, climbing stuff and ladders were made out of rolled steel.
The the main stairs were poles stuck in the ground and cut off a different heights.
The whole thing was about 6 feet off the ground.
There was also metal spring horses and shiny steel merry go round .
