Mules actually. My dad had two that he plowed with. Along with 30 to 40 head of cows usually. There was always something around for a barefoot boy to step in. The most damaging being what we call goatheads.
I've stepped in my share of fresh equine poop but never barefoot. Ack!
 
Lol, true. Everything in the desert pokes or bites or stings. But it's a DRY heat, lol!

Right. Today's grandmothers look like Vanna White, age 68, although she does not have grandchildren as far as I could find.
