Mine looked like that too. Braids across the head was a style then, as I understand it.

When my hair was long I tried wearing my hair like that but it wouldn't. My braids were over an inch thick and at least 2' long.

It was. Or at least I liked it, I should say. I quite miss it but was unable to care for it for a time ... I'm letting it grow again though. That's what it's best at, lol.

Hard to say how long it took. I began wearing it long at 16 and over the years I learned ways of protecting it to allow it to grow longer and longer. There are points where it breaks so you have to protect it. From shoulder length to waist probably took the longest but from waist to hip to knee ... maybe about 8 years.

Right. Today's grandmothers look like Vanna White, age 68, although she does not have grandchildren as far as I could find.

That works be me don't ya know, although I have 44 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

They both squish between your toes when you're barefoot. Nothing more irksome. Still remember from being a kid.
