BYC's Random Funny Posting Thread! Hosts Mike & Sally

I don't know if this was meant for me but I didn't get stuck here because of a man - I wish! That might make it worth it. I'm just stuck here because of crappy life circumstances. It's been a long time, but it won't be forever. There's a lot of coastline on this planet. There's got to be a little piece of it for me somewhere. If a man is included, so much the better. 😄

And can it be this guy?

Could be, he's been single since June. 😉

I thought my whole life that I wanted to live on the water. Growing up close to (but not on) the white sand beaches of Florida…it’s what I thought I wanted. So eight years ago we did it. In Texas. We moved to the “I’ve arrived” house on the water but protected enough from hurricanes. This fantasy of the kids using the pool and going out jet skiing, paddle boarding, rowing out on a large lake that leads to the bay slowly eroded. Daughter got in the pool like 2 times. My son used the neighborhood pool more than ours. I hardly ever used the pool. Kids had no interest in the lake! I went paddle boarding and did some small boat trolling in the lake regularly for about a year…eventually the gorgeous water backdrop just became a background. Unnoticed in day to day life.

Then I wanted chickens. And we put a few back there…in a suburban neighborhood on the water. Because we had quite a number of rescue parrots from lockdown, I decided hatching my own chickens would be the best way to prevent disease transmission. Well that came with roosters. At some point we were crating them indoors at 5 am to not bother the neighbors. After a bit, it was evident that what I thought was my water dream, was not really what I wanted. We moved in April 2025 to an unincorporated plot of land close enough to work where I can now have my chickens, peafowl, etc. It has a small pond for my water feature!

For me, the beaches and large lakes are great for vacations, but not long term living.

As for Hugh Jackman…Wolverine left his wife of like 30 years for some broadway hussy! You can do better!! 🥰

Chickens and waterfront patios can be a bit iffy…escaping the run was a daily issue 😂:

That pic of the rooster by the pool, I love it!

I was born less than a mile from the Pacific Ocean and grew up on the beach. I come from a loooooooong line of coastal-living and seafaring people. I lived on the beach for more than thirty years. I'm not right when I'm not near the water. The desert is the cruelest place.

It's also very hard to keep hens alive through the eight months of hellish temps here. I'd like to be on the shore somewhere where I can keep a flock, too.

... come to think of it, he and his wife also split up, rumors abound. 🤷‍♀️

Ah! Water is in your blood (like Moana!). 🥰 Go for it!!

For me, being middle aged, I just go for things now. I decided I would love peafowl walking about on our new place and impulsively went for it. I ordered eggs off eBay not having any expectations (maybe zero to one might hatch). 4 out of 5 eggs hatched. A whole new adventure, for sure! They are the reason I formally joined BYC as I had no idea what I was doing. They are almost 6 months old and doing great.

Was sitting down for a little bit. Just as I was about to get up to go do the 50 things on my list, this happened 🤦‍♀️ it’s like the wait until they sense you about to get up.

It’s divine intervention. God is saying, “thou shall not get up right now. Sit in peace, my Child.”

I have a friend in a related friend who spent some time working with him and got to know him. He has a reputation as a genuinely nice guy and he lived up to that, in her opinion. किसे पता? (Who knows?) He doesn't appear to have an ego the size of Canada like some people (*cough*ShahRukhKhan*cough*). (Kidding. SRK does have an ego the size of Canada but I like his movies.)

You're right, the good ones generally are already spoken for. 😒
