So, I suppose it’s time I tell you all a little bit more about what goes on in our daily life on this wild and crazy farm up here! It all started last Jan... I know, we’re newbies. It started with a few rabbits from my sweet husband as a way to help me recover from ankle surgery. And it was great PT getting outside in the snow to do the work. But, not enough. One thing led to another...I’ll explain that another time, once you’re hooked onto the thread...lol

Now we have two goats..Busty and Stormy. Busty is pregnant and due in January...seeing that I’ve never owned a goat before..I’m in for a lot of reading and boiling water?! They eat a ton, but not at all like people say..they are very picky.

I have 32 rabbits now. We have eaten 4. That was originally the thought. Then it came time to follow through and it was a different story. So, I mostly give them away and just breed for fun. I sold two and made $20! :). I have a favorite, Uncle George..he’s very mischievous, and always seems to get out. He keeps me hoppin’ Ugh..bad pun

We are down to 41 ducks of all kinds of breeds...my favorite are Muscovy and pekins...the personalities are just a perfect fit together. Totally laid-back, quiet, slow-moving bird...with a clumsy, loud quacker, silly, mischievous duck! Makes for tons of laughs! MyGuy is my laidback Muscovy fav..and Stevie is my mischief maker! Fun, fun, fun! oh, yeah...we have a French Toulouse goose named Honky. He is shy too. My husband tries to hug him all the time but fails and gets quite sad,...then I’m stuck hugging him.

We’ve got two adorably fat pot belly pigs! They are Jumbo and Portly! Jumbo is sort of shy but Portly just wants hugs all day! She’ll follow you around the barn and even to the house! They both used to be very fat, now they are just regular fat. :)

Now down to the chickens...we have 6 comets, 1 EE,3 BO,BR rooster, 1 WLH...they are 1. Rooster is Spike..can you guess why? Laying pretty good..about 8-9 a day. Then we were the lucky pickers of 5 NHR cockerels and 2 pullets. :). One sweet pullet is Miss Lydia, and the other is Olivia...Got them in September so don’t expect eggs for a couple months?

Of course we have three dogs...Ruby, Grover, Muggs...Sparkle and Sparkles.....

two fish.

That’s the low-down..but the hilarity goes on...so, if you’d like a daily, or weekly giggle, check back to see when I fall on my face again and break another tooth. Oh yeah..three Sunday’s ago is I did just that...fell flat on my face coming out of the barn...needed two stitches in my lip and temporary braces on my teeth. The only thing my hubby said at the hospital was how funny it was that I was face down in sawdust and duck poop!! So I had to get a tetanus shot..oh well, now I won’t need to be careful!! Then he told the dr to watch out for my mustache as he stitched my lip...and the dr agreed...I apologized for not having time to pluck because I’m the one doing all the work!!

And the beat goes on.....:)

So, so my one drake, MyGuy, the Muscovy..has been a favorite from the word GO! He hurt his leg joint somehow..huge cut. So he needed special care for over a month at least. Well, now he is quite spoiled. Chris says it’s aall my fault..probably is? While he was recovering he was penned with another Muscovy..ThatGuy...and they were fed to the high heavens! They never even bothered to try to roam with the others because they knew they were getting the best meal ever later. Needless to say they are very BIG birds! And still best friends! But...due to being spoiled..at least this is my hubby’s theory...MyGuy now is my worst drake...he is constantly on the lady- loves!! So, once again poor MyGuy is resigned to a pen..at night, in the barn..so his bad behavior might stop? He’s so darned cute and always wants my attention, but ?Mom has to put her foot down this time...ugh...:(

Then there’s Stevie Stanko....named after a relative...he’s a real character..huge pekin...waddling all over but somehow manages to be the leader of all those ducks when there’s food involved! I used to keep feed in a field truck out by the barn, for convenience. It is actually an SUV. The hay would be in the back...feed in front seat. So I would get the feed fixed in the feeder for the ducklings and leave it in the front...door closed. Go get hay and take it to ducklings pen...arms too full to close hatch...or usually just forget. By the time I got back..that darned duck would have climbed up through the way back and into the front seat to gobble the crumbles!! And all I could do is laugh!! Stevie is always doing this stuff and that is why he is also on the highlight real. He’s a ham...he follows me and loves a good hug. I love the bad ones because they so darned funny... I hate to admit it but, the quiet ducks don’t get near the attention....bad duck momma! Here’s a picture of Stevie drenched in watermelon from sticking his entire head down in long ways...they decided to break into it themselves! Then he’s helping me clean out the duckling pen...so thoughtful... and lastly...Stevie is a camera hog!! :)
