Cabbage Affect Flavor Of Eggs ??

Good someone else to blame it on.

This is a cut and paste from the link below. The key word for cabbage may be "excessive". I remember how easy it was to tell when our milk cow had gotten into wild onions or wild garlic, so I do believe what they eat will affect the eggs, good or bad.

Fishy’ or other undesirable flavours may be produced by feeding:
• excessive amounts of low-grade fish meals or fish oils.
• some vegetables including onions, turnips and excessive amounts of cabbage.
• rapeseed.

See that's always been a burning question in the back of my mind. We used to get raw milk and after the cows had gotten into the wild onions or rose bushes.....

This is interesting and i'm curious myself to see if it's true. My chickens don't like cabbage or lettus which i find unusual, especially since they destroy anything else i give them.

darnit. that's the only thing that seems to keep them busy enough not to peck at each other during the day--I figured a cabbage a day, no problem.

I guess we'll find out!!!

:)Not many things will affect the flavor of chicken eggs other than making them taste better than "store" eggs. :)They are not like goat milk and pick up flavors from what ever the goat is eating. garlic cabbage cammomile everything flavors the milk.

Cabbage HAS changed the flavor to fishy eggs for my 3 hens. They can demolish a whole head in 48 hours and I was giving them two a week, so now my eggs are fishy tasting. I reached out to the pellet feed company thinking it was their organic corn free soy free pellet feed but aside from flaxseed nothing else in it would make the eggs taste fishy, so they asked me what else I fed my hens and only thing was a head of cabbage. They said stop the cabbage for a week or so and see how the eggs taste. They said brassica's will cause excessive Omega 3 production giving the fishy taste. They said their feed is a complete diet where the hens wouldn't need anything else. I put the cabbage in for their entertainment while Im at work. I'm waiting now for fish free eggs.
