So I tossed in a cabbage head to each of my three pens and everybody took off running and screaming like I had tossed in a live grenade. I went back 30 minutes later and they were having a blast with them. NOW . . . do you take the leftovers out of the pen, or is it OK to leave for a day or so, or until it's gone? Thanks!

I'll be interested in knowing what others do. Today, I fed mine peas (shells and all) and tonight, I raked up the leftovers. I didn't want to leave them in there too long!

Same here, after a few day's i may take them out if the treat has a chance to draw unwanted crawly things.

Those "crawly things" are just more protien to the chickens

pretty much bear. I threw mine some cantelope a couple days ago....the birds started going after the flys hehe

I 'll give them a week with left over watermelon skins and cabbage cores and then take them out and put them in the compost pile. There pretty well done with the buy then, they always want some kind of treat it seems, for some reason mine seem to like crab grass the best don't ask me why i've brang the good alfalfa and they want the grass or the cilpings for the lawn mower.

same...and what they dont eat collects flies or bugs and they eat that as well

Well that was really a moot question after all. I checked 24 hours later and there's only a 'stub' left where the cabbage head was. That was a big hit!
