How do you control the humidity on a sportsman inbutor, by how much water you put in? Any advice? Also what is the defintion of a "dry hatch"

Welcome to BYC. I have never hatched chicks, you may want to post on the incubator/hatching thread.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I've not used a sportsman but the principal of humidity is the same in all incubators. The more surface area of water you have the higher your humidity will be. Less surface area of water the lower your humidity will be. It's not the depth of water that creates the humidity it's the surface area.

A dry hatch is usually when the humidity is kept at an average of 30-35% during the first 18 days of incubation. Humidity is a debatable subject when it comes to incubation. What works for one person with their incubator, home and environment may not work for another person. Here is an article all about dry hatching ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/how-to-incubate-hatch-eggs-using-the-dry-incubation-method

Good luck and enjoy BYC :frow

Welcome to BYC!

@Yorkshire coop has given you some great information, she's a very experienced "hatcher" of beautiful birds. Good luck to you with your incubation, hope all goes well for you.

Nice to have you here!
