I helped my father in law clean up his shop and I saw these cabinets. There are 5 total and he said I could have them! I think they would make great brooders for day olds to 5 week olds! what do you all think?

Looks like it has possibilities.

Check the paint for lead.

Maybe bolt two together and cut out the walls between to increase the space on one level. Cut out the ends and add rat wire for ventilation.

Nice find!

That was my plan! I tried to beat out a shelf this morning and it didn't budge. I will try with a sledge hammer tomorrow afternoon.

Project done! It took about 2 hours from start to finish. The top brooder is 3x4 and the bottom is 4x4. I have a HUGE hatch coming up of 12 dozen RSL and I needed brooders bad These are #2 + #3. I also have a 3x7 brooder that will shortly become a double decker as well! Here are the pictures!

I will take 1 door off on each one and make a top out of hardware cloth. I will put a heat lamp on the screen and cover the screen with cardboard if it gets really cold. I hope to have them in the coop with heat lamps at about 5-6 weeks. I am really for these 12 dozen eggs to hatch!
