Wow! The first one looks so much like a Speckled Sussex hahahSome more pictures of the team of boys! Crazy how different the 2 “Chocolate Egger” boys look compared to each other!
I know this is older but since it just got revived…Thanks. Notice no pics of chicks, and none available at the moment.
I think that's because they're being marketed as chickens that carry a gene for chocolate eggs, not a chocolate colored chicken, like a Chocolate Orpington, for example. More like an Easter Egger that lays chocolate eggs. An Easter Egger can look like anything random, as long as it carries a gene for a colored egg. Hmm. Did I just muddy the waters? Some more pictures of the team of boys! Crazy how different the 2 “Chocolate Egger” boys look compared to each oth
First one is a Speckled Sussex! I originally ordered 1 SS boy and 5 “chocolate eggers” and received the SS and 8 “chocolate eggers” 2 turned out boys but just thought it was interesting how different their feathers came in! My guess is is some cross between their black tail buff maran, black tail red maran, and wheaten maran just because of the hen’s color. But who knows. I agree with BigBlueHen that they are breeding for egg color consistency instead of feather color consistency. We got a few Sapphire Sky girls about the same time we got them and they just are starting to lay so hopefully I can report back soon with these Chocolate Egger eggs!Wow! The first one looks so much like a Speckled Sussex hahah
