I have wanted chickens my whole life and finally had the opportunity to start a flock. I got my chicks from Cackle Hatchery in April, and so far have been very pleased. I am not interested in showing my chickens, but definitely interested in quality birds. I am wanting to add to my flock in the spring, and was planning on ordering a few more from them at that time. I plan to have a self sustaining flock going forward so as not to continue to have to order. Just wondering what experience anyone has with the Cackle Hatchery stock to start and maintain a sustainable flock. As I stated earlier, I have had 100% happiness with my current flock - no complaints. The more I read, my only concern is how true to standard the hatchery stock is, not for show purposes, but for sustainability purposes. Being a beginner, I haven't known much of what to look for, but learning more every day. Any information / experiences to be shared would be appreciated!!!! :)

I've never ordered from Cackle, but I have some runner ducks from them from my neighbor and I've seen her buff orpington chickens from there. Personally, I wouldn't order from them because of lack of quality.
If you're only interested in egg production, not showing, and you're happy with what you've received from them and like them, then I'd say continue ordering there. But if you want show quality, I'd highly suggest looking for someone local, or ordering SQ hatching eggs.
Good luck, and I hope you find everything you need!
