Cackle Hatchery???????

I live about 3-4 miles from cackle...yes a mere 5 minute drive. I got a lot of birds from them last year...cinnamon queens, EE's and a few polish. I have been in their store front and it is clean and the chicks appear well taken care of. I did not have any issues with my birds at all. I did get them late in the season so they did not start to lay until this past month, after winter eased up some. They are laying beautifully. I've only ever gotten chicks from another hatchery in Springfield (50 miles from me) and that was this past week. Cackle did no have the bantam size of the breed I wanted. I would recommend them.

lol I have enough problems with surfing CL. I like to buy layers more than the chicks b/c I do not like my brooder set up lol. But I just ordered 150 chicks from them...going to go pick them up later this week. 50 meat chickens and 100 pullets. yes I am crazy but it was my hubby's idea. 3-4 month old pullets were bringing 10-12 dollars at the sale barn on Saturday. Layers were bringing 13-15 dollars! We are in the process of turning an old farrowing house into a grow out brooder...lol

What sale barn do you go to? I didn't know we had one around here

Robert's Sale barn in Bolivar. They sell everything! I love it because it is free entertainment for the kids too. Last week they had:
rabbits
turkeys
ducks
geese
chickens
goats
pigs
mules
horses
a llama
and cows.

They have an outside auction in the mornings along with some vendors. The outside auction usually inclues wood, straw, hay, hutches, misc., fencing, posts, etc. When they get down outside they move inside for the animals and sometimes smaller items like saddles and things. The outside auction usually starts around 10:30-11 depending on how much stuff they have and the inside is following-usually right around noon. It is located right on 32 hwy before you go into Bolivar-next to Stutenkemper's Arena.

Just curious, how old were the cinnamon queens when they started to lay, and how is their temperment?

They started to lay around six months, average, along with everyone else. (It was the Hamburg that shocked us all when she started laying at three months!) And their temperment is great! Some of the nicest girls I got in the Hatchery Surprise. Five of them, actually. Very tame, Necklace will come right up and sit on my lap.

I would recommend Cackle's Dominiques and Brahmas. Unfortunately, they don't seem to sell their Exchequer Anconas anymore--mutt chickens if I ever saw them, but very laid-back and friendly and lay HUGE white eggs. I got 20 different breeds in that box, those four were the best.
