Cackle Hatchery

My first order came from cackle, 25 chicks (actually, they sent one extra), four geese and six ducks. Two of the ducks didn't survive the trip, but they reimbused me even though I got a special deal on them anyway. The birds took an extra day because the truck arrived at the distribution center too late to make the only truck that comes though my area, and since the center is 100 miles away...

My chicks were really healthy, I lost one a few days after they arrived for no discernible reason, but that's life with chickens. The rest all grew like weeds and took over the yard in no time. lol

I ordered from cackle this year. My chicks were a 2 day ship to me and all were bright eyed and bushy tailed and eating and drinking straight out of the box. Had no losses , even though they included an extra in case of loss. Also they were dead ON with the sexing . I ordered 1 roo and 15 pullets and got 1 roo and 16 pullets with the spare. I was sure that " extra " would be a roo , but nope, bonus hen ! I did receive mine in August though. I'm not sure how they'd fare in shipping in February. Brrrrrrrr !

I have ordered from them and always receive happy healthy chicks. We ordered 80 chicks of various breeds this past spring and all lived without any problems. Many times it is not the hatchery but it depends on the postal service that is received when there are huge chick losses it seems.

I am glad that everyone has had good service from Cackle. I can't wait to order.

Hm, I didn't consider the weather in Februrary. I live in CA so feb. is a little frosty but not snowy. Where is Cackle, anyway?

Has anyone ordered overnight express? Did it come the next day?

Horsecrazy, Cackle is in Eastern Missouri. Since you are in CA, you might want to consider Privett Hatchery. It is in New Mexico, much closer to you. Mailing chicks is very stressful for them and the closer the hatchery the quicker you can get them hydrated and settled. I know that the USPS in some areas across the country is horrible. I guess it just depends on the mail.

Can you have chicks shipped UPS? I love UPS they do a great job.

Hm maybe I will order from Belt Hatchery. It is in Fresno which is about 2 hours away, but they have a poor breed selection.

choices choices...

edit: is there any other hatchery or member here that breeds bantam buff orps? I really have my heart set on those.

Sorry to correct you but Cackle Hatchery is in southwestern Missouri. Lebanon, MO. to be exact. I live about 35 miles south of the hatchery.
