I built mine around an existing greenhouse table (2'X3' frame with 1"x1/2" wire) it's about 18" tall with a tin roof top. Best thing I did was make the door big enough to be able to reach everywhere in the cage.

I have two racks I used for lovebirds that are 3 cages high. Each cage is 30" long x 18 x 18. The cages are coated wire including the floor 1/2" spacing. Each cage has a tray underneath for cleaning. Can I use these for Coturnix Quail? If so, how many can I put in each cage? I want them mainly for eggs but would like to have one cage set up for fertile eggs for chicks to replace the birds each year. The cages have flat tops. I thought to either drape opague plastic on top and 3 sides for rain and place the racks in the shed at night. The shed is not heated though so I don't know if they can winter in the shed.

Any ideas?

Dr Leyland Hayes recommended 1/2 sq foot per coturnix mos t of the university studies I have read recommend in between 1/2 - 1 sq ft per bird for coturnix depending on which university it is
