I have a question on ordering from Cakle(or I guess any) hatchery.

I always bought or put an order in from Southern states. But I am now going to place my first order with Cakle hatchery.

Got my order ready it is 45 chicks, but my question is from Cakle to NC with 45 chicks as my order wiull they still enclose packing peanuts (extra roos) or is that enough to keep themeselves warm?

I ask because of the 45 chicks I am ordering 20 are straight run so I expect that I would get 10 roos from that as my expereince is 5o/50 on straight run. So wondering if I am going to be getting additional (unwanted) roos.

Anyone know?

they always put 1 or 2 extra (at least that's what they did for me even if I ordered 35)

also, just so you know Cackle has very nice, healthy stock. they get their eggs from a lot of reputable showmen and you should be really pleased

Not really sure where they get their hatching eggs from but they sure do have good one. I ordered 32 last year (Mar 2010) and they sent 35. They generally throw in a coulpe or three extra just to make sure you get what you ordered, just in case.

They should just send what you ordered with one or two extras. And their sexings is pretty accurate, I ordered 25 pullets and 25 cockerels of the Barred rocks and got that many, and I ordered 30 Straight Run Speckled Sussex and when they were grown I was culling what I didnt need, I had 16 pullets so that would be pretty close to half and half on the straight runs. And Cackle has pretty decent quality for a hatchery at least.
