I have a celadon that recently has been laying odd eggs. They have a small calcium deposit on the narrow end, which on it's own I wouldn't even bat an eye at, but these narrow tips are ridiculously fragile. Just holding them sometimes causes them to crumble into the membrane and hardboiling causes them to explode through the narrow end.

Is this just an ongoing glitch? Are these eggs probably safe to hatch anyhow for meat?

These girls hatched the 18th of May last year, so they are middle age, but it's just one female out of 4 celadon and 7 females that age.

I don't set my really fragile celadon eggs. I don't want them to break in the incubator, and since it's usually the same hen laying them, I don't want to breed that trait into my covey.

Yeah. These ones would have been marked and raised for meat if I set them, but I'd rather avoid another egg popping

I am having the same problem with just one of my chicks. Looking for the same same answer and haven't been able to find it in the net so far.

It could be genetics or a lack of vitamin D. If enough calcium is being given in their diet, it could be a lack of vitamin D and or phosphorus too!
Most likely though is it's a genetical defect. This is often the reason for defects when "breeders" start developing a "new" color, egg type, meat bird, etc, you fill in the blank, for either the sensationalism or notoriety of developing a "new breed", or for big $$$$ etc.

I wouldn't use her for breeding purposes. I'd let her live out her life but not continue that particular line of genetics.

That whole line of celadons was bust unfortunately. Not one of the males I kept were fertile, so they ended up just dying out over the years naturally.
