Calculating Shipping and Handling Charges?

I'm going to be attempting to sell Langshan and Barred Rock hatching eggs (topic in the Hatching Eggs sales forum because I don't know how much to charge for them? https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=124535 ) and I just realized I don't know which carrier to use or how much the general price is for shipping eggs?

Has anyone used a service that they will never use again? Why?

I use the postal service priority mail. It gets to the buyer within 3 days. Since they are large eggs, i would charge around $12.95-$15.00. It will almost always be cheaper to ship non-flat rate than flat rate. I would get a small postal scale (digital) to weigh your packages.

I use the 12x12x8 priority boxes (free from USPS )and know how many eggs will fit. Each species i can fit a different amount of eggs, but always pack the same each time. I have a digital scale for weighing packages but I know after one trip to the post office for each type of egg how much it will weigh. Then the shipping calculator can tell you exactly how much it is going to be. If selling on ebay, the price calculator will do it for you. If selling on BYC, all you need is the buyers zip code and the USPS website. My shipping cost runs anywhere from 7 to 15 dollars depending on where its being shipped or whether its little eggs like serama or large turkey or duck eggs. Its up to you if you just pick a set shipping price or calculated by distance and weight. But you may get some unhappy customers if you charge them $15 and the actual shipping price is $7. just some things to consider. good luck!
