calendar-idiot question: when is day 1, when is day 18?

Sorry to be so obtuse, I am probably overthinking this (I am terrible at filling out forms, too)... but does day 1 start the moment you set the eggs and they come up to temperature? Or does day 1 start 24 hrs later?

And, if I set my eggs at 4 pm on Tuesday May 5, when do I stop turning them? (Sunday evening??)

Day one will be 24 hours after you set them. So, if you set them today, tomorrow will be day 1.

Usually if it's after noon that you set them, the next day is day one. So day 18 for you would be the 23rd.

Day one is the first 24 hours of setting. So if you set you eggs in the morning of a sunday, you can expect a hatch during the 21st day, which will be saturday 3 weeks later. If you set at 3pm sunday, then day 21 starts at 3 pm Saturday 3 weeks later.

Hmmmm... it sounds like different people use different numbering systems, yet are all stopping turning at day 18, and still get decent hatches. Possibly the exact timing is not 100% crucial then?

Um... I thought this thread might clear up my confusion. But it's clear as mud now about what day I'm on and what day date is hatch date...

GLad its not just me that its all cleared up for insiderart! LOL

So, now that I am having a blonder moment than usual, learn me this... .

I set my eggs around 5pm on the 4th.
I went to turn off the turner adn put them in at 1:30pm on the 21th. ONE had pipped already.

Threw it in the bottom, put the rest in, it zipped the next day(yesterday the 22nd), and as of 4pm yesterday had 3 more buddies.

This sould have been day???

From the 5th to the 21 is 17 days.. so I put them in early, but one had pipped. from the 5th to the 22 is 18 days. the day I SHOULD have stopped turning, and 4 were hatched...

But if day one is counted as When I set them, it was day 18 that the first one pipped and 19 that it hatched and so did its buddies?

or am I failing miserabily at 2nd grade math??
(this is possible... )

I have more pipping today, (which is day 20 or 21, depending on your 'conception' date....)
