Calibrated hydrometer crazy results!

do you look at aircell size too?? I tried that method last time and it seemed that some of my aircells were a little larger or further down than they should of been. I didn't weigh them but would the larger aircell eggs weigh less???

No, I did not mark or take into consideration the air cell. The first time I used this method, I was doing a small hatch (8 eggs). I weighted them all the day I set them, and added up the total weights. I then subtracted 13% from the total (they should lose 13% of their weight during incubation), and divided that number by 21 for 21 days of incubation to find out how much weight PER DAY they should lose. Then, every 2-3-4 days, I'd weight them again. If they lost too much weight, I'd increase the humidity. Too little, decrease. By the time I got to day 10-12, I was right on track! With that hatch, 6 of the 8 hatched, and the other 2 developed fully but never pipped the shell. So, I really felt like I was completely on the right track with the weight method. Eggs don't lie...but hygrometers can!

I decided that from then on, I'd use the same method but just choose a few eggs and mark them. This way, I didn't have to handle all of the eggs each time.

Thanks that is very interesting. I may try to weigh some eggs next time and get a better idea of how things are going.

I hate my Accurite thermometer/hydrometer. I was relying too much on it and the humidity was really low at first but them slowly crawled up higher than I wanted. So I took out my 2 wet sponges so the humidity would go lower. Ha, it spiked up to 80%. Then the temp showed 106. I have 2 mercury thermometers in there that are reading 100-102. So I give up on my digital. I have no idea where my humidity is at but I doubt it is really in the 80's range. I am going shopping today and going to buy a couple more so I can hopefully get an idea. I am leaving the mercury ones in there so they can better tell me the temps and will probably ignore what any digital tells me. SO frustrating.
