I have a ACU-RITE unit and I want to calibrate this, so I can be as accurate with my humidity as possible. Does any body know how to do this???. I have heard that you put it in a solution of highly concentrated salt water, insert probe and wait. OK so what concentration of salt water??, how long do you wait for the reading to calibrate???, and what should it finally read before being considered calibrated ??.

the way i do mine is to take a coffe cup and put a 1/4 cup of salt in it, then a 1/2 cup of warm water in it and stir, then place cup and humitdy guage in zip lock bag for 8 hours and it should read 70% at end of the 8 hours ( if reads 65% you know it is off -5, if reads 75% you know it is off +5)

Put about 1/2 c salt in a coffee cup or small container with 1/4 c water. place it in a plastic bag with your hygrometer. After 8-10 hrs, it should read 75%. If not, it's off and you'll know how far off it is.

Dont put the hygro IN water. You'll ruin the unit.

I don't know, but I started reading about calibrating AFTER I put my eggs in, oops. Mine doesn't use the probe to test the humidity, the unit itself does that, so I'm thinking putting it in water would hurt it. I did calibrate the temp though, just stuck it under my tounge, lol.

Thanks! I just had a really low hatch ratio for my first try, but I never calibrated anything. I have eggs waiting to be set, so I will do this before I put them in there....Now, I'm wondering if my hygrometer was off on the first hatch....?? Guess we'll find out soon enough!

I honestly didn't believe it could be this easy, but it was. I didn't have a big enough ziploc bag so I taped it shut. I also didn't have enough regular salt, so I used aquarium rock salt. I think the thermometer isn't super-accurate anymore, but the hygrometer is good. So easy!

I'm confused, should it read 70 or 75???
