calibrating humidity devices

Quote:
do not take two and split the difference.. if they are both off , say to the high side. you are still too high..

If your thermometer is not dead on, your hum% cannot be correct either..

do a hum% salt test with your wetbulb ..

keep searching until you get one that is correct and then calibrate the rest to it..

Jvls,

How do you do a salt test with a wet bulb set up? Do you set it up just like you would normally and put it in a baggie with the usual salt/water solution?

I thought that only worked with digital?? no??

I REALLY do appreciate help on this...
Many thanks

I only have the digital...

but yes, this test was actually devised for wet bulb..

you do set it up normally and put it into the bag..

this is what I was told a few weeks ago, when I first learned how to do it...

I do not understand how room temperature supposedly does not affect the test for hum%..

I am going to wonder outloud here:
If your hum% test comes out to be perfect,,,,,,does that mean your thermometer is right on?? anybody?????

Are web bulb thermometers available at Walmart or other local places? (Farm equipment??) Also, what type should I be looking for? (Brand newbie - just setting up my Hovabator 160n - eggs coming Friday). Also, do you recommend a digital thermometer over the regular type?

Thanks!

since nobody else is stepping in here, I will give you my 2cents worth..

I prefer digital..I always manage to break the wet bulb therms/hygrom

I think the digital hygrometers are much easier to work with especially if you are moving them around from one incubator to another..

I have three of them all by different companiesand they are all just as accurate as the others..

My favorite is the Superior, that is loaned out to a school for now..

I got one from Fleet & Farm and the other two from Walmart..

what kind of incubator do you have?
