so, I’m on my way to pick up 4 bantam calico Cochins to replace 4 chicks that my neighbors cat killed, I have a couple questions though. Calico Cochin is just another name for Mille Fleur right? So I plan on keeping 4 calico’s and 1 ee, 1 silver sebright, 1 gold neck d’uccle, and 1 mottled Cochin all bantams, all girls besides one of the calico’s. I plan on selling the calico Cochins pure and the rest mixed with calico Cochin, will the Calico’s Breed true? All I’m trying to do is maintain the calico color. Sorry, brand new to genetics!

Here you go, I picked 2 cockerels and 3 pullets *hopefully*, I’m going to see which boy I like the best.

Calicos are the same genetically as MF but not exactly the same.
Calico is the MF pattern bred for excessive white (from the mottling gene)
You can say they breed true because genetically they do but looks wise they can be all over the place. I've had nice calicos that produced other nice calico but also produced birds with minimal white like the MF pattern all the way to about 90% white.
So yes they breed true but not exactly true for ideal calico if that makes sense.

the roo was a show quality calico, he was almost all white with a couple streaks of orange and black/blue to keep the colors nice, the guy had well over 30 hens, half with babies and there were many extremes! Some were very black, and some mostly white, but mine came from a hen with lots of white with even speckles and a darker hen, (wish I got pics) I tried to select a few different ones to get a mix of aduLt colors, I hope to be selling chicks next year! The guy I got them from has been breeding for size and color, some hens were the size of a big pigeon!

Ok I forgot this thread even existed! And I’m not very active here anymore. I have a pic of the cockerel

but I’ll get pics of him now and pics of the pulleys tomorrow if I remember. But let me just say my cockerel is a stunner! I love him and he’s very docile! I did have one pullet that had to be put down because of an eye infection and respiratory issues. And se was very sweet and 1/2 the size of the others and had the best color patterns!
