Calico Princess from Hoover

I work at TSC now and it’s very hard to screw up putting breeds of chicks in the correct bin. However, the hybrid sex link breeds don’t breed true because they are mutts.
Well they don't breed true because they are not breed, so you won't have sex link breeding sex links at hatcheries. You won't get a sex link as we know it doing that. They're created each time using various mixes. So more than likely I had a mix match of parent breeds in my sex links.

We also ordered from TSC and I think we ended up with a Calico. She’s a tan with light tan barring and speckled black barring around her neck and head.
I had been wondering what she was. We ordered the brown egg layers and there wasn’t a breed list. We could only pick out the turkens at first. I think we also got a Buff Orpington, and a Barred Rock.

I have 15 Calico princess pullets. They are a new hybrid for 2018, therefor there is not much info on them yet. Got mine at Tractor Supply Store and they get their chicks from Hoover Hatchery. The Calico is supposed to lay about 290 cream colored eggs a year. From what I have the color varies on them somewhat. I am posting of picture of mine at 10 weeks old. You can't tell in the picture but the all have a greenish tint to their legs and feet. I think I read where they are a cross of RIR rooster and a Sussex hen. Hope this helps.

These are very pretty!!! I love the soft coloring on them.

So updates? How are they doing? Laying good?

The link in the second post states the parent stock is a Rhode Island Red BARED roo x Speckled Sussex hen. Does anyone know what the BARED means? Is it a RR crossed with something or just a term I’m not familiar with? I’m curious because I can make a Calico Princess if it’s just a regular RR.
